2. John Allen Jones ⁽⁴⁾⁽¹⁾ was born on 27 Oct 1835.⁽¹⁾ He died on 14 Apr 1871 in Chambers County, Alabama.⁽¹⁾ He died at his plantation home. He served in the military. ^{(1)(5) (6)} He served in the Alabama Home Guards during the War Between the States, being First Lieutenant in Co. A, whose Captain was William C. Wallis, under General Tyler's Cavalry.

A letter from the State of Alabama Archives notes that:

"Records show J. A. Jones, 1st Lieutenant, age 29, enlisted 18 August 18964, residence Chamber County, Alabama in W. C. Wallis' Company, mounted Infantry, 2nd Class Alabama State Militia."

A letter from the Adjutant General's Office of the War Department in Washington states that:

"The records show that J. Allen Jones, name also found as John A. Jones, served as 1st Lieutenant commanding a Detachment of Captain Wallis' Company, Mounted Alabama Militia, serving as scouts on Chaltahoocha River. His name appears on a receipt for forage for thirty public horses in the service of Captain Wallis' Company which was paid at West Point, Georgia on August 26, 1864 and September 5, 1864. No later record of him has been found."

He was buried in Rosemere Cemetery, Opelika, Alabama. ⁽¹⁾

John Allen Jones moved to Alabama from Madison, Ga. prior to the War Between the States. He settled in Oak Bowery (Chambers County) Alabama.

He owned a large plantation in Chambers County, Alabama near Oak Bowery, and a large number of slaves, many of whom stayed with him after being freed.

He was married to Mary Billingsley before 1863.⁽¹⁾ Mary Billingsley died in 1863.^{(1) (7)} She died as a result of childbirth. She was also known as Molly or Mollie.⁽¹⁾ John Allen Jones and Mary Billingsley had the following children:

+6 ii. Lou Ella Jones.

He was married to Leonora Ann McCurdy (daughter of Edward Sellers McCurdy and Mary Jane Harris) on 6 Jun 1865.⁽⁸⁾ Leonora Ann McCurdy⁽⁷⁾ was born on 5 Jan 1842 in Chambers County, Alabama. ⁽⁸⁾⁽³⁾ She died on 15 Nov 1886 in Opelika, Lee Co., Alabama.^{(8) (3)} Leonora's sister was Rebecca McCurdy, the mother of Sue Ellington who was referred to as "Aunt Sue." John Allen Jones and Leonora Ann McCurdy had the following children:
