Obituary of John Allen Jones:
"John Allen Jones Died Suddenly at Home This Morning
Pioneer Citizen of City--Funeral be Held Monday
Opelika loses another one of its pioneer citizens today in the sudden death of
Mr. John Allen Jones, which occurred at the family home this morning. Mr. Jones
has been in failing health for some time and partially recuperated from a second
attack a few months ago, and was able to be out. He was at his Oak Bowery farm
yesterday. Mr. Jones was taken ill during the night and died suddenly from a
heart attack this morning at 10:23 a.m. [September 25, 1943]
Mr. Jones was 74 years old and born at Oak Bowery. He spent his lifetime in
Opelika and was one of the leading influential business, civic, and church leaders
in the community. He was a member of First Methodist Church and on Board of
Stewards for many years. Mr. Jones has been a member of the Rotary Club for
a number of years.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. John Allen Jones, three sons, Edward Jones, who
with his father operated the John Allen Jones & Son, Inc. insurance business;
Captain Lewis M. Jones, Medical Corps U. S. Army now in England; Captain John
All Jones, Jr., Medical Corps U. S. Army, who just arrived at Greenland, the
family receiving notification from him Thursday of his safe arrival; two daughters,
Mrs. Oglesby Lowe, of Orlando, Florida; Mrs. Herbert Vaughan of this city; one
sister, Mrs. Orrin Brown, Sr., of this city; ten grandchildren, two nieces and
two nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at three o'clock from the first
Methodist Church with Dr. John W. Frazer officiating.

Susan Love Greene was the widow of John Allen's brother, Edward Jones.
He
was married to Mary Ann Greene.(1)
