"Mailli M. Burkhardt-Nelson
MILWAUKEE - Mailli M. (nee: Hallen) Burkhardt-Nelson, 96, passed away on Wednesday, May 10, 2006. Mailli was born on February 3, 1910, in Stockholm, Sweden, to John and Elizabeth (nee: Moller) Hallen. Her family moved to Manistique, Mich., where her parents owned and operated the Park Hotel. Mailli grew up and went to school in Manistique, Mich., later moving to Racine, where she spent most of her life. Surviving are her four children, Yvonne Burkhardt Haas, Merrick (Justyn) Burkhardt, John (Patricia Johnston) Burkhardt, and Paul (Susan) Burkhardt; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Gloria Hallen. Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Mailli was preceded in death by her first husband, Merrick Burkhardt in 1959; her second husband, Wallace Nelson in 1993; a grandson; brother, Arne Hallen; and son-in-law, Gerard Haas. Funeral services were held at the Hanson Funeral Home on Monday, May 15, 2006, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Warren Williams officiating. Interment was at West Lawn Memorial Park. Special thanks to the wonderful staff who cared for Mailli at both Lincoln Lutheran Home in Racine and Milwaukee South Rehabilitation Center in Milwaukee.
