Funeral services for Lorine Alma Goggin, 91, of Poulsbo, WA and formerly of DeGraff, were 3 p.m. Sunday at St. Bridgets Catholic Church in DeGraff with Rev. John Goggin officiating. Organist was Margo Alsaker and song leader was Cindy Regan.
She died Thurs., April 15 at Martha and Mary’s Health Center in Poulsbo.
Pallbearers were Dan Peterson, Matt Peterson, Kevin Peterson, Ryan Bryson, Sean Bryson, Joe Goggin, Leary Lundquist and Scott Hendison. Honorary pallbearers were Michael Thompson, Tara Hendison, Erin Martin, Anna Cherney, Sarah Stevens and St. Bridgets Mission Group. Burial was in St. Bridgets Cemetery.
She was born April 30, 1912 in Hetland, SD, to Bertha (Jaeger) and George Neilson. She grew up in Benson and graduated in 1929. She graduated from Normal School (teachers training) in St. Cloud in 1930. She taught in a one room school for several years.
She was united in marriage June 29, 1937 to John T. Goggin at St. Bridgets Catholic Church in DeGraff.
In 1970 she graduated with a Bachelors Degree in elementary education from the University of Minnesota, Morris. She continued teaching at St. Francis Catholic School in Benson for 18 years until retirement. She substitute taught at Benson Public Schools after retirement. Among things she enjoyed were music, sewing, crocheting, crewel embroidery, gardening, painting, photography, reading and working with the St. Bridgets Mission Group. She was a one-to-one volunteer at the Willmar State Hospital for many years. She was very active in St. Bridgets Parish in DeGraff where she was a CCD instructor, director of religious education, a sacristan, a member of the bible study group, and a member of the Altar and Rosary Society.
Survivors include: her children, Rev. John Goggin of San Lucas Toliman, Guatemala, Colleen Mikkelson (and Dr. Michael) of Seabeck, WA, Kathleen Peterson (and Richard) of Le Sueur, Richard Goggin of Seabeck, WA and Mary Patricia (and Keith) Stevens of Duluth; a sister-in law; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1981; her parents; a brother, Leslie Neilson; four sisters, Ethel Olsen, Beatrice Anderson, Georgia Thompson and Bertha Lundquist; and three infant siblings. "
