Respected Resident of Jessenland Twp. Victim of Pneumonia

The week we are called upon to chronicle the demise of a highly respected farmer and old pioneer settler of Jessenland, Oliver Goulet, who passed away at his home Thursday, December 27, aged 84 years, 8 months and 4 days. He had contracted flu which developed pneumonia and caused his death. The deceased was well and favorably known by many of the readers of the Independent. He was among the early settlers of Jessenland, coming here when nineteen years of age with his parents, from Canada.

His wife preceded him to the grave about twenty-five years ago. He is survived by two sons and three daughters, namely: Joseph Goulet and Alfred Goulet, Mrs. James Tierney, Mrs James McNamara, Mrs. Mike Berger and two daughters at home.

The funeral was held on Friday, interment being made in St. Thomas cemetery, Jessenland.

Owing to the fact that the members of the family were all down with flu we were unable to get data for an obituary for this issue of the Independent.

Oliver married Justine Chevalier, daughter of Edouard Chevalier and Mathilde Goulet, about 1873.¹ (Justine Chevalier was born on 22 October 1853 in Canada ^{1 6 10 11} and died on 22 December 1903 in Sibley County, Minnesota ^{11 12}.) The cause of her death was diabetes.²
