  Notes on his death:

"N. Chevalier Was Buried Yesterday

Nazareth M. Chevalier, one of the early settlers in this part of the state and a resident of this vicinity for 51 years, died at his home in this city at 8:15 o'clock Monday morning, September 20, after an illness of ten weeks. Death was caused from stomach trouble and complications. Mr. Chevalier's condition first became serious three weeks ago and he had been confined to his bed since.

Nazareth M. Chevalier was born at Montreal, Canada, on January 1, 1850, having attained the age of 76 years at the time of his demise. Together with his family he emigrated to the United States when a lad of eight, the family making their home at St. Paul in 1858. They moved to Dayton in 1865 and then to Waverly in 1868. Fifty-one years ago, while a 25-year old young man, he first came to this vicinity and took a claim in Pope county. Two years later, on January 16, 1877, he returned to Dayton to wed Miss Celia DeMars, the sweetheart of his boyhood days.

They made their home in Pope county until 1900, when they moved to Benson, which city has been their home since. Mr. Chevalier managed a flour and feed exchange for seven years. During 1907 and 1908 he was manager of the Paris hotel. In 1908 he retired from active work.

Besides the widow, the deceased is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Charles Perrault of San Diego, Cal., Mrs. Oliver Goulet of Clontarf, Mrs. Ida Houde of Minneapolis, and Mrs. F. L. Martin of DeGraff, and two sons, Louis of Clontarf and Cleddy of this city.

Funeral services were held from St. Francis Catholic church at nine o'clock Wednesday morning, September 22. Rev. P. M. Shea officiated. Interment was made in the Catholic cemetery."
