Mrs. Armeline Fennell, 90, Came To This Vicinity In 1871

Last rites were held Monday morning, February 6, for Mrs. Armeline Fennell, a resident of this vicinity for nearly 70 years and of Clontarf township for more than 33 years. Rev. Fr. R. G. King officiated at the funeral mass in St. Malachys church, Clontarf, at 9 o'clock. Six grandsons served as pallbearers -- Merrick Burkhardt, Thomas Fennell, Jr., Lewis Fennell, Arthur Fennell, Lawrence Johnson and Leonard Hargreaves.

Mrs. Fennell died at her home in Clontarf Thursday, February 2. Armeline Goulet was born in St. Sasaire, Canada, on February 24, 1849, and would have been 90 years old had she lived until her birthday this month. She came to Minnesota with her family in 1860, when 11 years old. She was married to Frank Fennell in St. Paul in 1865. In 1867 they moved to Northfield and later lived a short time at Glencoe.

The Fennell family came to this vicinity in 1871 and purchased a farm 4½ miles east of Hancock. In 1906 they moved to Clontarf. Mr. Fennell died on November 14, 1912. Mrs. Fennell was a member of the Rosary Society of St. Malachys parish.

She is survived by eight children, two sons and six daughters: Mrs. Mary Therault of Minneapolis, Mrs. John (Alice) Grenier of Schnomish, Wash., Mrs. Ida Burkhardt of Racine, Wisc., Frank Fennell, Mrs. Stella Sherman, Thomas Fennell, Mrs. L. R. (Rose) Hargreaves and Mrs. Albert (Emma) Johnson. Mrs. Fennell is also survived by a step-daughter, Mrs. Edvish Picquette of Bertha, 46 grandchildren and 75 great grandchildren."

Armeline married Francis Fennell in 1865 in St. Paul, Ramsey, Minnesota.1 (Francis Fennell was born on 25 December 1835 in Canada,11 died on 14 November 1912 in Clontarf Township, Swift, Minnesota 11 and was buried on 16 November 1912 in Clontarf Township, Swift, Minnesota 11.) The cause of his death was carcinoma of the throat.3
