(1853-1903) |
Justine Chevalier 2
Cause of her death was diabetes.5 Things to check: The 1900 US census says she's the mother of 10, of whom 7 survive, but her obituary says she was the mother of seven. 1 5 Notes on her death: "Death has again entered our midst and taken from us one of our most highly esteemed members, Mrs. Oliver Goulet, who died last Tuesday, Dec. 22, of diabetes, after a long illness. The maiden name of the deceased was Miss Jestina Chevalier. She was born in Canada Oct. 22, 1853, and hence was about 50 years of age at the time of her death. At an early age she came to this country, coming direct to this place. She was united in marriage to Mr. Oliver Goulet. Seven children were born to them, two sons Joseph Goulet of Le Sueur, Minn., and Alfred who is living at home, and five daughters the Misses Hosanna, Sophia, Elizabeth, Josphine (sic), and Mrs. Jas. Tierney, all of whom reside here. About ten yeras ago she was taken ill with diabetes but her condition was not considered serious until about two years ago when she suddenly took a change for the worse. The best physicians of the surrounding country were summoned and all that was possible was done to alleviate her suffering. But all was to no avail, she grew rapidly worse and worse until death finally came to her relief. The funeral was held from the family residence last Thursday morning, whence the remains, followed by a large concourse of relatives and friends, were taken to the Catholic church in Jessenland, of which church the deceased was a life long member. Requiem services were held in the church at which Rev. Fr. Joyce officiated, preaching a very touching and appropriate sermon. The remains were interred in the Jessenland cemetery. The pallbearers were George Ethier, Wm. Burke, Chas. Maloney, Wendell Berger, Patrick Carroll and John Murray. She leaves to mourn her loss, besides her husband and family, her father Edward Chevalier, of Glencoe, four brothers, Louis Chevalier, of this place; Charles Chevalier, who is now living in Canada; Joseph Chevalier, of Benson, and Wm. Chevalier, of Glencoe and two sisters Mrs. John Goulet and Julia Koons, who reside at Glencoe. Two of her brothers Alphonse and Nelson Chevalier departed this life several years ago. The sorrowing relatives have the sympathy of all in their sad bereavement."
