  General Notes:

Inga was born in Valdrus, Norway. She came to America in 1882 at the age of 6 (or 10) months with her parents, Andrew and Annie Nelson. They lived first in Green Bay, Wisconsin, moving to Hancock, Minnesota when she was six years old. When she was 16 her Mother died, leaving five younger children for Inga to help raise. She lived with and worked for Mr and Mrs Nels Selland for 5 years in Hancock. As a young adult, she moved to St. Paul, and lived with her Aunt Inga and Uncle August Gustafson. She met and then married Otto Lundgren June 14,1906. They lived at 664 Duluth Avenue in St. Paul. Adolph and Anna Herbst were neighbors and later were called Grandpa and Grandma Herbst by Alice and Ellen. When Otto was diagnosed with tuberculosis, he was encouraged to move north for his health. He purchased a farm one mile west of Hinckley, Minnesota from the Trossen family. They purchased and brought with them many of the furnishings from the rental house in St. Paul. Ellen was born in Hinckley July 31, 1910. Otto passed away May 10, 1911. They had been in Hinckley only a few years but Inga stayed with her two daughters. She later married Carl Johnson of Hinckley. They were divorced several years later. Ellen was killed in a car accident in Milaca. She and Inga were on their way back to Hinckley from a long visit to the Hancock area. Inga passed away on July 17, 1946 after surgery and a lengthy bout with bowel obstruction. -- Gwen Lundgren. 1
