Van Hoven, Edward G., Sr. Age 81, of Friendship Village, Bloomington, formerly of St. Paul. Preceded in death by his sister, Lolita Apo; two brothers, Hank and Ralph; and great-grandson Nicholas Haider. Survived by Mary Jane, wife of 61 years; six children, Connie (Michael) Wittek, Ed, Jr. (Dorothy), Joan, Greg (Connie), Peter (Julie), and David (Duchie); 17 grandchildren, Kate, Dan, and Greg Wittek, Theresa Haider, John, and Mathew Van Hoven, Michelle Wells, Rebecca Zwart, Kelly VanderVoort, Nicole Burk, and Liz Archer, Sarah, Renee, and Phil Van Hoven, Helen, Peter, Jr., and Rachel Van Hoven; and 11 great-grandchildren; also many nieces, nephews, and friends. Ed graduated from Cretin High School in 1942. He served in WWII in the Corps of Engineers in the South Pacific. He was past president of the Cretin Alumni Ass'n, an active member of the Knights of Columbus (St. Paul Downtown Council #397), and president of the Van Hoven Company from 1959 until 1979. He was also an active member of the National Renderers' Ass'n, the Serra Club, and past-president of the South St. Paul Rotary Club. Visitation 4 to 7 PM Thursday at Willwerscheid Funeral Home, 1167 Grand Ave (651-228-1006) and also AT CHURCH one hour prior to Mass. Mass of the Resurrection Friday 11:30 AM at the Church of St. Joseph, 1154 Seminole Ave WSP, Fr. Pat Kennedy presiding. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Trinity Missions, 9001 New Hampshire Ave., Silver Spring, MD 20903. Special thanks to the staff at Friendship Village Health Care.
