R. P. Meissner of Plato Dies
Richard P. Meissner of Plato expired at the Glencoe Municipal hospital
Monday morning, August 10, 1970, about 10 o'clock. Mr. Meissner enjoyed
fair health in his later years but became ill Friday afternoon, August 7,
and was taken by ambulance to the hospital. He attained the age of 82
years, three months and two days.
R. P. Meissner managed the Stearns Lumber company at Plato since 1926,
until retirement about the year of 1955. Prior to moving to Plato, he
resided at Kiester, Minn., where he engaged in carpentering and later
moved to Imogene, Minn. where he operated a lumber yard and grain
elevator.
Mr. Meissner served the village of Plato as a councilman, and was an
honorary member of the Plato Fire Department. He was a member of St.
Paul's United Church of Christ of Plato, and was a member of the
Churchmen's Brotherhood. He was interested and took part in civic
affairs of the community, and also served as a member of the Plato school
board. R. P. Meissner was a member of Hope Lodge No. 42, A.F. & A.M.
Glencoe.
Richard Paul Meissner was born May 8, 1888, in Hancock county, Iowa, a
son of Ludwig Meissner and his wife, Helen (nee Moldenhauer). He was
baptized in infancy in Iowa, and was confirmed May 25, 1902, by Rev.
Tiede of the Lutheran church at Mansfield, Minn. On October 8, 1914, he
was united in marriage with Mata Hintz at the Mansfield Lutheran church
by Rev. Tiede. The couple made their first home at Kiester, Minn.
Surviving is his wife, Mata, and their two daughters, Mrs. Erwin
(Conradine) Oltmann, Plato, and Mrs. John (Ruth) Lyons on Silver Springs,
Md. Two sons-in-law survive, seven grandchildren, one brother, Albert
Meissner of Alden, Minn., and other relatives and a wide circle of
friends.
R. P. Meissner was one of a family of ten children. Preceding him to
the grave were his parents and three sisters an five brothers: Dena,
Mary, Anna, Louis, Emil, John, Gustav, and Arthur.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. Edward Krueger at the St.
Paul United Church of Christ of Plato Thursday afternoon, August 13 at
two o'clock. Mrs. Clifford Hoernemann presided at the organ and the
Men's Quartet sang.
Interment was made in St. Paul's cemetery at Plato, and casket bearers
were Gilbert Miller, Herman Selchow, Harry Lepel, Orlin Stockman, John
Selchow, and Roland Schrupp.
Relatives and friends paid their last respects to the late R. P.
Meissner at visitation at the Johnson Chapel, Glencoe, and at the church.

Out of State Guests
Mr. and Mrs. John Lyons of Silver Springs, Maryland are spending a week
with Mrs. Mata Meissner and with Mrs. Connie Oltmann of Plato. They came
at this time for the funeral of Erwin Oltmann. On Sunday Mrs. Mata
Meissner, Mr. and Mrs. John Lyons and Wayne Oltmann went to Kiester,
Minn. where they attended a reunion of the Hintz School. The school was
located on the farm of Mrs. Meissner's parents. It was started in 1884
and Mrs. Meissner attended this school. Mrs. Meissner also 93 was the
oldest pupil there. The day was spent in renewing old friendships and
talking of old times. The late Mrs. A. Roy Johnson formerly of Glencoe
had been a teacher in this school. After the reunion they visited with
Mr. and Mrs. Llewellyn Hintz of Kiester, a nephew.

Mata A. Meissner, 101, of Plato
Mata A. Meissner, 101 of Plato died Oct. 17, 1993, at Glencoe Area
Health Center.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Oct. 20, from St. Paul's United
Church of Christ, Plato. The Rev. Jerald Fenske officiated. Muriel
Hoernemann was the organist and the congregational hymns were "For All
The Saints," "In The Garden" and "I Heard The Voice Of Jesus Say."
Interment was in St. Paul's cemetery. Pallbearers were Donovan
Buckentin, Orville Hoernmann, Chuck Pinske, Orlin Stockmann, Elton
Bandemer and John Selchow.
She was born Sept. 28, 1892, at Walters, Minn., to Louis and Emma
(Pfhanning) Hintz. She was baptized and confirmed at the Lutheran
Church, Mansfield, Minn.
She was united in marriage to Richard P. Meissner on Oct 8, 1914.
Mrs. Meissner is survived by daughters and son-in-law, Connie Oltmann,
Plato, Ruth and John Lyons, Silver Spring, Md., grandchildren, Wayne
Oltmann, Dennis Oltmann, Ann Strange, Peggy Lyons, Joan Panuska, Tom
Lyons and Mary Lyons; great-grandchildren, Jeremy Oltmann, Travis
Oltmann, Alissa Oltmann, Clinton Panuska, Mallory Panuska and Holly
Panuska; sister Maletta Katzung, Albert Lea; sister-in-law, Frieda
Meissner; also nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, in 1970, four
brothers and one sister.
Paul Funeral Home of Norwood handled arrangements.
