Olga and sister Ida traveled to Minnesota where they stayed with and
worked for an uncle to repay their passage fare. They lived in a sod
house and worked in the fields as well as tasks such as baking bread in
the outside oven. Olga was very homesick for Germany and at times was
sorry she came. After completing her time at her uncle's farm, Olga went
to St. Paul where she worked for a wealthy family and also learned to
speak English. This information was related by Olga's daughter, Elfrieda
Ziebell Brustman.
