Atlas (USA/China) Standard Steel-Sided Caboose w/ Offset Cupola

This model (Atlas's so-called "Transfer Caboose") replaced Atlas's earlier Roco-made six-window "standard cupola" caboose in the early 1970s. It was originally manufactured in the USA, but eventually production was relocated to China. The early (USA) production runs have no manufacturer / country of origin markings of any kind. More recent runs are stamped "Atlas China" on the bottom. Earlier runs have metal wheels and truck-mounted Rapido couplers. More recent runs have plastic wheels and truck-mounted Accumate automatic couplers.

As of this writing (2008), Atlas is still producing this model (now marketed under their "Trainman" label and referred to simply as "cupola caboose") -

This ubiquitous eight window design has been a staple of N scale since the beginning, with virtually every manufacturer offering one version or another of it. It is based on the "ATSF 1900 Series" prototype.
