HCI Remixed: Reflections on Works That have Influenced the HCI Community will be published on December 21, 2007.
Over almost three decades, the field of human-computer interaction (HCI) has produced a rich and varied literature. Although the focus of attention today is naturally on new work, older contributions that played a role in shaping the trajectory and character of the field have much to tell us. The contributors to HCI Remixed were asked to reflect on a single work at least ten years old that influenced their approach to HCI. The result is this collection of fifty-one short, engaging, and idiosyncratic essays, reflections on a range of works in a variety of forms that chart the emergence of a new field.
For more information see its entry in the MIT Press catalog, or the project archives.

Public Call for Participation [submissions are closed]
We are inviting you to contribute to a unique project for the HCI community: HCI Remixed! Our aim is to produce a collection of essays in which researchers and practitioners reflect on a paper or other piece of work by someone else, that is at least 10 years old, and that has had a personal impact on their view of or approach to HCI.
We intend the essays to be brief (up to about 1800 words), personal in tone, and reflective in nature. In form they are similar to book reviews, but rather than taking a critical stance the goal is for each essay to examine the positive impacts the work has had. We believe that a collection of such work will provide a unique perspective on how HCI has developed, will direct readers to forgotten or underappreciated work, and will perhaps remind them that their own work, by influencing others, can have a lasting impact on the future of HCI.
The status of the project is that we've signed a letter of agreement with MIT Press to publish a book, contingent, of course, on their final approval; we also intend to launch a blog associated with the project. A full description of the HCI Remixed Project, including Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ), submission process, and deadlines follows.
