Eric Peterson began creating music in
his college dorm room using a his roommate's keyboard and
drum machine and two cassette decks. He played guitar in a
few hapless garage bands and participated in several
arguments against the use of keyboards and drum
machines. Following college, in his effort to continue
creating music in the absence of a band, he purchased a
drum machine and a cheap four track recorder. He then
added a midi workstation and began his journey into the
world of midi and electronic music.
Eric moved to Minneapolis, and
purchased additional gear such as samplers and sound
modules. Many of his friends told him there would never be
an interest in "instrumental" electronic music.
Eventually several big-name artists put electronica on the
map and Eric was faced with the dilemma of balancing his
career and passion for music. He purchased a PC to control
his then unruly assortment of gear, and had to take
baby-steps once again to figure out how to operate
everything. As time passed he replaced much of his old
gear with new equipment and deeply focused on
understanding digital audio. He also settled into the
styles of break-beat oriented material with elements of
funk and began posting material at mp3.com.
mp3.com featured Simulacra on
three free
promotional CDs which led to a licensing agreement with
Disney Network's Z-Games. An A&R rep from Resonant
Media also spotted Simulacra on mp3.com, resulting in
a licensing agreement for a compilation CD, Mindspace
101. Then, Esoterica from the UK picked
up two tracks for a funky breaks compilation CD.
Three more tracks made it onto the soundtrack to The
Matrix Revisited on Warner DVD and most recently, the Spiderman
DVD (disc 2).
