I think if you name your website www.funky.com then you have a responsibility to live up to the name. Otherwise, you stole the soul, and the last thing the net needs is for someone to do that. There is not a whole mess of soul around the Web in the first place.
So I was apprehensive when I sent Netscape looking for that Universal Resource Listing and it reported that it was downloading files.
There are a couple of links there to P-Funk related sites, but this guy wouldn't know Experience Unlimited from Doors Unlimited, and I'm not too happy about his use of the name.
Go ahead and check it out> for yourself
if you like, but I'm convinced that the site has problems.
Namely... Well, I'll keep the
shouting off this page.
Now some might say that if he gets to the name
www.funky.com first, it is his to use. Further, they might say
"Who are you, Stevie G, to tell this guy what is funky and what isn't?"
To these people I say, get your own website.
Then I say, it may be his freedom to name his site, and use the word
funky as he sees fit. But it is my right to write to him and tell
him that milquetoast ideas are not funky, and he should take them off
the site. And I did just that.
Update: The owner of the page wrote back to me, conceding that
I was "probably right". Check up on him for the G-man, make sure he
gets on the good foot and changes things.
Now I must admit, the mail I sent him was considerably more tactful
than the page I wrote here. That's
fair, I believe. A letter to the editor should be even handed to
warrant notice. At the same time, the spirit of this forum is ...spicier.
I'm happy though. Open for business only three days, and already
straightening things out. Right on.
