The Doctor

Greg Carter grew up in Oregon, the Beaver state. If that doesn't violentally disturb your development, maybe nothing will. So Greg took up the challenge again by going to Cleveland for his undergraduate education. At Case Western Reserve University, that is. Urban crime, Indians fans.

I got to know Greg in yet another extreme set of living conditions, first year of graduate school in the frozen Minnesota winter. For the first few weeks, Greg was known for keeping to himself, and dismissing many offers to socialize with one word.

No.

I can respect that, but that earned him the nickname "Dr. No" anyway. As it turned out, he was not being aloof. He probably just didn't like the offers he was getting. Sure enough, by the end of the year, "Doc" was chilling like the rest of us. Well, as much as people who did Quantum Mechanics homework in bars on Friday nights between games of pinball can claim to chill.

Also as it turned out, Greg is one smart cookie. He's graduating this year after only four years in the PhD program, and will be heading to a post-doctoral position at the Neils Bohr Institute at the end of the summer.

So we kind of changed his name to "Dr. Know" in the mean time.

Greg has a quick wit, and an accurate sense of current events. He's good for sports debates and cheesy movies, too.

I wish him luck in Denmark, and I believe I speak for all my friends here when I say that we will miss him.
