You're Riding The Shockwave - Intro

The easiest way to read the script is to start with Part I, and continue with the link to the next part at the end of the document. Each part has links to other pages, including this one. For easier navigation, the link from the top of once section links to the bottom of the previous. You can also simply use the navigation bar to jump around.

The radio play was designed to fit exactly into an hour-long slot in the Great Hall at Minicon 30, April 14, 1995 from 7:30 to 8:30. The script is so long that I've decided to break the web page up into parts for easier reading (and to make my html editor happy).

Further, because the performance needed to be exactly an hour, for Minicon reasons and for radio reasons, I wrote much more material Just In Case. The play was started by a cue from the engineers, and ended by my timing the last section and interrupting when necessary. I came in just under 15 seconds of the hour. I have included the last, unused, part of the script in the last file.

The pre-performance script is up on the Minicon pages, but for this script I have cleaned up a bunch of typos, made other links, and added the acting and production credits. Aside from the acting credits (which I embellished for clarity), this is pretty much how it was performed in front of the live audience.

An audio tape of the performance is available as a Shockwave Distribution Tape.

At some point maybe I'll explain some of the in-jokes, but that's a big, big project. For now, this is under construction.

There will soon be little sound files scattered throughout. If you see this .gif that means there is sound for that line, and you can just click on the button or the highlighted line. The sound files are short (>10 seconds) in 8 kHz mono mu-law .au 8 bit format. I don't know how it sounds on an IBM machine, but they sound okay on my Mac using Sound Machine. The complete listing of sound files, including many that aren't part of this script, are located on the Sound Page, under construction.
