Emissions / Smog Information
- Black smoke:
- Is burning of excessive fuel being dumped through system. WAY RICH.
- Blue smoke:
- Is burning oil blowing by pistons/rings, or valve seals. If it
is on start up it would be from valve seals. If constant then it's blow by.
Since the greatest vacumm is produced when decelerating. (Engine is revving
high, but throttle is closed). If the smoke increases greatly upon
deceleration, suspect valve seals. Oil is being sucked past the
valves into the intake manifold when vacuum is high.
- White smoke:
Is burning water/anti-freeze. Blown head gasket, cracked head, etc.
