Stores Anton Likes

These are a few stores which I particularly like, mostly in the Twin Cities area. Your mileage may vary.

Uncle Hugo's Science Fiction Bookstore. If you like science fiction, you'll love Uncle Hugo's. This is one of the largest science-fiction bookstores in the U.S. New science fiction, used science fiction, fantasy books, games, filk music, and the list goes on. It's teamed with Uncle Edgar's Mystery Bookstore for a real fix. They publish a quarterly newsletter with which you can plan exactly what day to visit them to pick up that new book you've been waiting eagerly for. They also do a mail order business, and will accept requests to watch for used books.

Team Electronics. One of the oldest Apple dealers in the Twin Cities, and still in business. Their software selection isn't the best, but they'll special order for you, and they carry a wide selection of Apple hardware. They're a reliable place for repairs as well. Tell Dave I sent you.

Byerly's. While it's not the mecca for all exotic foodstuffs that I recall from my childhood, this is still a good grocery store to visit if you feel the need for lemon curd, parmesan reggiano, or fresh savory. It's also just a pleasant shopping environment: carpeted aisles, friendly employees, and lots of open space to help prevent the crowded feeling of so many grocery stores today. I like it. (The store I usually visit, on Suburban Avenue in Saint Paul, is older and smaller than their others, but still has a decent selection of hard-to-find foods.)
