Very good and honest service, a great place to buy
appliances, mid-fi electronics, computers and accessories.
But, they wouldn't know a good speaker system if they
tripped over it, the best stuff they carry is Velodynes
budget subwoofer line. They will gladly haggle over price
and I have usually gotten them down 10 to 20% where markups
warrant it.

After doing countless hours of research on the latest Dolby Digital receivers,
I decided to buy a Denon AVR-3200. I called J&R's after getting a variety of
prices from other reputable mail-order companies. I was curious to see if
they did indeed match prices. Needless to say, they matched the lowest price
and then some! They even offered to upgrade the shipping to 2nd day Fed-Ex at
no additional cost. Rick, the salesman, was friendly and easy to deal with.
He was not pushy or arrogant. The
receiver arrived on the day promised. If you are looking for an outstanding
Dolby Digital receiver, give the Denon a try. It is absolutely amazing!!
As far as J&R's is concerned, I would not hesitate to order from them again.
They are a class act with class products!!

Ordered a Denon DRM-740, quoted 349 + 5% shipping, talked
into 325 shipped (Dave x1037). Deck came quick (upgraded
Fed-Ex 2 Day), but was broken. I'm not sure about the
packaging for a new deck, but the box the deck came in had
only a wimpy piece of
tape across the top, made me suspicious. Called about
return, was told, no problem, return and we will credit your
return postage and get a new one out. Shipped back Monday,
called on Saturday: Told me they received the deck, and
would credit my credit card later, I said, no they were
supposed to send me a new one! After waiting, he confirmed
that. I mentioned about crediting the return postage, he
said, well, ok, do you have a receipt? I did, so now I need
to fax the receipt for this one. He thought they would ship
the new deck out Monday (today Sunday), I'll let you know.
Overall, the people I have dealt with have been nice, albeit
a bit inconsistent.

I have dealt with J&R for over ten years. They used to have
the best prices in the tri-state area but have gotten pricey
in recent years. They still have the best selection of audio
and video gear. You can get the best information and price
from an audio salesman there named Gary Melee. He's not in
mail orderbut in the audio salesroom. You can call
there direct and get mailorder. Highly recomended!
On top of being informed and knowledgable, Gary is
a no BS guy. He will give the straight scoop on anything
involving audio. In addition he always trys to give you the
best price he can.
I just picked up a closeout on an NHT SuperOne speaker and
the price was the best. There is one caveat about the
organization that all buyers should be aware of, "they will
hassle you on returns".

Excellent mail order outfit. Dealt with salesman Richard for a Sony DVP
s-3000 DVD player. These players were hard to get as they were being
discontinued. Richard gave me a decent price, about 12% off retail. The
pleasant surprise was that he upgraded me to Fed-Ex and I got the player
in 3 days, double boxed and in good condition. Only complaint is that they
quote close to retail and you have to haggle over the price. I recommend
J&R and Richard @ ext 1011 heartily for your Audio Video needs. - Sid

I Ordered a Yamaha YST-SW300 subwoofer by phone from J&R on a Friday night.
The salesman was low pressure, but not particularly warm. I was given an
order number for follow-up inquries and told that I would get delivery the
following Thurs by UPS ((I live in Mich; J&R ships from NY). I e-mailed J&R
customer service the following Tues to ask if the speaker was shipped. They
replied promptly telling me that the speaker was shipped Monday and included
the UPS tracking number with their response. The speaker
arrived exactly when promised. It was double boxed and in perfect condition
despite its 65 lb shipping weight. Based on this experience I would buy
from them again.

After many hours of research on mail order companies, I
purchased a Dennon AVR-3200 from J&R World. Spoke with
Dave, who matched the price I had been given from another
authorized Dennon dealer. Upon asking, he upgraded shipping
to Fed Ex 2 day delivery, with no extra charge. Called the
following day and requested the tracking number for the
package, and it was given without hesitation. Recieved my
new reciever on time, and double boxed. I would not
hesitate to recommend or use J&R for my next purchase. One
of the most professional mail order companies that I have
ever dealt with. The only thing I suggest you do if you are
going to use mail order is to call the manufacturer to
verify that the company you are considering is authorized,
because if they are not, you will have no warranty.
Considered using One Call or Uncles Stereo, but according
to Dennon, they are not authorized dealers. Watch your
back, and double check with the manufacturer. Happy

Long, long, long, long delays after I exchanged an amplifier for a more
powerful model. Would have thought they'd of been happy as I spent an
extra $200 on the bigger amp. I guess they showed me.

i have used j&r several times over the years. they are not
always the cheapest, but have always sent what i ordered.
on 12/23/97, i ordered h/k pa5800 (amp) and pt2500 (tuner/
preamp) for $930+. boxes arrived 12/26/97 in good shape.
the price was about $500 below c/c.

i orderd a digital camera, but only received an empty box. calls to their
customer service department received no merit they could only tell me of
their problems. have had me call back at least four times and each call
only prompts them to tell me to call back again as the are unwilling or
inable to give me an answer. I will have to seek recourse through credit
card company or the state attorney general. it appears as though mail order
through them is iffy at best

I was quoted a price for the Denon AVR-3200 of $899.00, OK
I thought they would negotiate so I said I would buy it for
$839.00. They said they did not negotiate on Denon. I
told them that I had read messages (this page) that they
had sold it to other people at this price, he told me that
I needed the name of the person that they sold it to at
this price. I then hung-up and called Kies Audio Video
and they quoted $825.00, I bought it. I am still waiting
to receive it because it was backordered, I should have it
next week. Kies Audio Video did not have a toll free
number, but the guy that I talked to was knowledgeable and
helpful.

I called J&R and asked to talk to James (since he was
recommended in their listing) to get a quote on the Sony
DVP-S3000 DVD player. I told James that I was shoping for
prices. He quoted me a price which of $549 which was
neither high or low. Although, the quote ($999) that I got
for the Sony STR-DA80ES receiver was $100 higher than other
authorized dealers. My experience with J&R is that they
always quote you close to retail prices (just look at their
catalog), but you can always negotiate. The lowest quote
that I got was from Video Plus Audio for $475 but they were
out of stock. I decided to call James back and see if they
would match the price....which he did reluctantly (he did
say that he gets paid on commission and had to put me on
hold to talk to his supervisor ). Anyways, he wanted to
charge me close to $30 for shipping. I told him that this
was unreasonable. So, here we go again.... back on hold so
he can talk to his supervisor. He comes back and says that
$18 is the best that he can do. This was more reasonable
but I've had cheaper S/H. The delivered price came to $493.
In addition, the shipping was upgraded to Fed Ex 2 day air
(after the purchase) at no additional cost. So, I'm not
complaining. In summation, I was happy with the
transaction. J&R is a very reputable mail order company.
You just have to be prepared to negotiate. When buying
through mail order, this is almost a necessity. I would not
hesitate to purchase through J&R again and would recommend
James.

Excellent service and prices. I purchased a Denon AVR-3200
the day before Thanksgiving. They initially quoted the same
price as many other places, but a little bit of haggling
dropped them from $899 to $839. I ordered next-day USPS
shipping and it arrived Friday morning double-boxed. I will
not hesitate to deal with them again. A great company.

J&R sent me a product different from what I ordered.
A phono cartridge was advertised in Stereo Review at a
price that was about 10% lower than the J&R catalog price.
I called to order and was quoted the catalog price. When I
mentioned the magazine price, the guy asked me to wait, and
then oferred me the cartridge at 10% lower than magazine
price! I said fine and asked for fedex shipping. I was told
it would be sent the same day and would arrive in three
days. A week later the package arrived. Inside was a
cartridge that was a cheaper model from the same
manufacturer! When I called, I was told it was the model I
had ordered and the right item had been shipped! I try not
to shop at J&R anymore.

Pleasant and efficient service. I ordered an Aiwa walkman-size recorder
on Friday and got it on Wednesday, exactly when they promised. My order
was complete and everything was included. It was also packaged well.
The shipping charges are a bit steep, but I would definitely buy from
them again. Much better than my previous mail order experience!

it promptly with no questions asked. I've also bought many
tvs and other things from them and it's always been
delivered promptly and accurately.

about 5 business days later.
The reciever was in its original packing and it was placed
inside another sturdy box for shipping.
They actually beat the lowest price by twenty dollars and
I am very pleased with the service.
I would use them again and would highly recommend them to anyone.

J&R Music World wished to express concern over comments that
they claim to have merchandise in stock when they don't. An
employee claims that this can happen, but that it is not intentional.
He explains that the database used by salespeople is updated
intermittently. He continues to explain that a large
order may clear out their stock or that items sold in their retail
store may not make it into their database for quite some time.

These guys are very fairly priced, open 24 hrs/7 days,
and they know their stuff. The mail order guys are pushier than
the retail store guys (you can order from either-
bet you didnt know that!) AND they WILL drop the price
if you haggle with them!! Most people dont know that either.
Tell them if you saw your item for less and they will usually match it.
They ship in sturdy, well insulated boxes and theyre stuff is
always factory fresh. My favorite vendor of all of them.
Check out their store- clearance stuff is super cheap and
they always have some sort of sale running (no- I dont work for them!).
Theyre selling a Phillips DCC deck for $99!!
its worth it to buy that just to have a D/A or A/D converter/ digital format
translator!

Positive side: Their prices are great! Better yet is J&Rs
shipping- I ordered on a late Monday afternoon and received
my order Wednesday morning.
Negative side: The people in the shipping area apparently
miss rebates and other "extras" that were supposed to be
shipped with the merchandise...

Excellent return policy:
I recently purchased a Pioneer laser disc player from them.
It didn't work. Thinking to save time,
I took it to the only local authorized Pioneer service center;
3 weeks later they said: yes, it doesn't work, we'll have to order a manual.
I called Pioneer, who said: if it didn't work when you got it,
you should have sent it back (thanks a lot). So I called J&R,
they said send it back,I did, and they sent me a new, working model within 10 days.

Good prices and willing to negotiate even lower price to
match other vendors. Prompt shipping, my experience on
about 7 orders I placed with them it took about 2 or 3 days
to receive. Service is good too, one time when I ordered an
aps camera there was supposed to be a mailer for free
developing. When it did not came with the order it was send
to me after a phonecall. Recommendable!

on not so high end when i enquired on a pioneer elite model
rather than the standard pioneer they informed me that they
were not the elite dealer just the standard pioneer
dealer...no bull straight shooters...i have bought from them
a dozen times norelco shavers to bose speakers and
laserdiscs i recomend em....
