In many car audio magazines I have seen the ad for
Apex. At first, I thought it was a rip-off, but i was
curious. So I paid the $50 for the catalog. I thought,
hey what the heck, I can get my money back, and I get some
free stuff, right? Wrong. They sent me a free cd CERTIFICATE,
a free pager CERTIFICATE, and a free cell phone CERTIFICATE.
The "certificates" were mere scraps of paper cut out by
hand, you had to pay outragous shipping charges and other
fees, and you get them with your first order. Now the initial
prices were great. But the shipping charges are totally
unethical. Now, to place an order it has to be mailed in,
with a check, money order, or your credit card number. Now,
for those shipping rates, there should be at least 3 day
shipping like crutchfield, but no. AFTER your order is
recieved, it takes 2-3 weeks at the LEAST!! By the way,
forget about manafacturers warranties.
They're not authorized by any of the companies they sell.

If you have ever visited Apex's homepage,
it is quite apparent that the "deal" they offer is quite attractive.
I was regrettably sucked in by their propoganda, if you will.
I paid the USD$39.95 and had the catalog sent to me.
Apex had claimed that the customer pays ONLY the wholesale price and that
there is no markup. They also claim that their
shipping charge is what they pay. There are supposedly "no hidden
charges". This is definitely NOT true. I must admit
that on the surface, the prices are quite attractive. However, when
examined in more detail, it is quite obvious that
the customer is being misled (whether purposely, or accidently, I do not
know for sure -- it does seem like the first one,
though). They do indeed charge a handling charge and their shipping prices
are extremely unreasonable.
As for their customer service, in their catalog, they advertised emails
receive a response in 24 hours. From my experience,
I can say, without a doubt, that this is not true. After I received the
catalog, I emailed Apex with some questions.
No response was received. Two weeks later, it was sent twice -- with
approximately 3 days in between. One of them was finally
answered. However, the answers were meaningless answers that ranged from one
word to one sentence, at most.
The pathetic customer service, combined with the outrageous hidden charges
pushed me to send them a complaint. This complaint
was sent 3 times within a period of 2 weeks. This time, not even a peep
was heard. I am extremely dissatisfied and angry.
Please put a vote for 'extremely poor' under your list of mail order
companies in order to aid in the deterance of other such incidents.
