Rick's Mink Nymph

Note: This pattern was put on the list by Jim Stangowitz on 95.11.22 as part of a thread about the properties of mink fur. I haven't fished it but it's definitely an easy tie.

As a less experienced tier I found that the repetition of dubbing 12 bodies was very productive for my technique. I haven't done much dubbing in the past and this puts it all in the open (no hackles to draw attention away from the body!).
Hook: Mustad 9671 (or equivalent) sizes 8 - 14
Thread: Unithread Red 6/0
Body: Mink body or tail hair with guard hairs left in.

1) Wrap the hook shank from eye to bend, back to eye and back to bend > with even wraps of thread. Lacquer thread
2) Spin a long noodle of mink hair onto the thread.
3) Dub the mink hair from tail to head leaving room to whip finish.
4) Remove loose hair from fly.
5) Catch fish with fly.

That's it, much too easy to tie, and much too effective to ignore.
