Red Serendipity
Hook: TMC 2487 size 14-20
Thread: Red Uni-Thread 8/0
Body: Red Larva Lace Midge Body
Siphon: White Hi-Vis Floater (Dan Bailey)
Tying instructions
1. Tie in thread behind hook eye and build a nice smooth base of thread
back to halfway down the bend of the hook.
2. Tie in Larva Lace midge body material at this point and wrap thread forward
to about 1 and 1/2 eye lengths behind hook eye.
3. Wind Larva Lace forward to thread, creating a smooth, segmented body.
Trim excess.
4. Tie in siphon material. I use a longer-than necessary stack of this and
trim it to desired length after fly is finished. This past year I found
this Hi-Vis Floater material in Dan Baileyís catalog and switched
from the antron I had been using. The traditional pattern calls for deer
hair.
5. Whip finish with final wraps going over the siphon material.
6. Trim siphon material to size. I like the back part to extend almost to
the hook bend and the front part to extend over the eye about 1/16 to 1/8
inch.
