PPB (Pheasant Peacock Beadhead)
hook: Mustad 2457 #14, #16, or equivalent
thread: brown
head: pearl or gold bead
rib: fine copper wire
tail/body: three cock pheasant tail fibers
wingstub: flue from the base of large hackle
thorax: two strands peacock herl
1) slip bead over hookpoint and slide to the eye of hook
2) attach thread, spiral to point where bend starts
3) tie on copper wire for ribbing
4) tie tail so that it extends beyond bend of hook by 1/3 of length of shank
5) wrap remaining part of pheasant tail fibers forward to create abdomen
6) wrap copper wire ribbing (counter wrapped)
7) tie in wingstub, trimming excess nearest to hook eye
8) tie in peacock herl, wrap forward to create thorax
9) whip finish behind bead
10) trim wingstub to desired length
Variation: For heavier nymph, wrap layer of lead wire between step 2 and
3.
I've had good success in Colorado fishing this upstream; also in a traditional
'dead drift'.
