Hook: Tiemco 2457, size #18
Thread: Olive 6/0
Tail: Moose Hock Hair
Rib: Fine Gold Wire
Shell: 3/16" wide strip of plastic (sandwich bag or whatever)
Dubbing: Olive Rabbit Dubbing

1. Cut the tail 3X the shank length so that it extends off the bend about a shank length and off the eye about a shank length.Tie on and down to the bend so the tail gently curves down.
2. Tie on the wire ,then the plastic shell. I use lengths of about 6" of each when I tie a dozen. It is easier to handle than short pieces. Both these should hang off the back so they can be wrapped forward later. Put these in a material clip if you have one to keep them out of the way. Leave the thread near the bend.
4. Dub the body thickly at the bend and slightly taper as you wrap toward the eye.
5. Pull the shell over the dubbing and tie off at the eye and cut.
6. Wrap the rib forward (about 4 turns if using a #18) and tie off at the eye and cut.
7. Whip finish (5-6 wraps and you don't have to use head cement).
8. Cut the tail hair that is hanging over the eye off except for 2-4 pieces that will act as antennae. You should try to have these hair pieces extend in a slight V shape.
9. Pick out some dubbing for the legs.
This is one of my favorite patterns on the local rivers. I use some microshot about 6" above the fly to get it to the bottom. Add a bead head and you will get the same result but I have found this to work better for me. The browns love this in the fall.
