Iven's Brown and Green Nymph
My nymph is called Iven's Brown and Green Nymph, and the pattern came from
Mike Dawes' "The Flytiers' Companion", (1989). It is a relatively
simple pattern using ostrich and peacock herl, and is readily varied by
color by different combinations of herl mixed together. Mine is a weighted
version on size 10 nymph hook. I usually fish it in moderate to fast flows
with droppers of various kinds. I have had good sucess with it, since it
is a caddis pupae pattern, used in the UK as a lake pattern, but I have
used it successfully in both still waters (Montana & Colorado) and streams.
Hook: Down-eyed nymph hook or long hank hook: sizes 8 to 12
thread: Olive
tail: 4 strands of peacock herl (I prefer the fine tips of peacock swords)
