Hook: Dai-Riki 070, Tiemco 3769 or equivalent, sizes 8-16
Thread: 8/0 black or color to contrast
Abdomen: Orange goose biot or color of choice
Thorax: Olive Scintilla dubbing or color to contrast with abdomen
Hackle: Soft mottled brown hen, partridge or grouse body feather
1.) Secure the butt of a goose bigot on he far side of the hook.
2.) Wrap the goose biot forward to the rear of the thorax and tie off.
3.) Form a dubbing loop.
4.) Come over the top with the thread to lock in the loop.
5.) Insert a thin layer of dubbing material into the loop.
6.) Trim both the right and left sides of the dubbing loop to form a single
strip of material in the loop.
7.) Spin the dubbing loop.
8.) After wrapping the thorax, trim to shape.
9.) Tie in the butt of a grouse feather to the far side of the hook leaving
a little of the bare stem exposed.
10.) Using hackle pliers make 6 to 8 turns of the feather around the thread.
11.) Form another dubbing loop.
12.) Close off the top of the loop by bringing the thread over the top from
right to left and securing the thread around the hook.
13.) Spin the dubbing loop a few times to create a spun feather.
14.) Make 2 to 4 turns of the hackle pulling back the fibers of the previous
turns with your fingers. Whip finish.
