Beadhead Bird's Nest
Hook: Curved nymph, such as Tiemco 200R, Mustad 80050BR, size 10-18
Thread: tan
Tail: mallard dyed wood duck flank fibers
Body: Hare's ear plus (Golden), mixture of antron and hare's ear
Rib: copper wire (alternatively gold)
Wing: mallard dyed wood duck flank feather, tied full round
Thorax: same as body
Head: copper bead (alternatively gold)
Note: I also tie this with olive dyed mallard and olive dubbing
Slide copper bead to eye of hook. Add weight if desired. Tie in 4-6 mallard
fibers for tail. Tie in copper wire. Dub and wrap abdomen to within 1/4
shank length of eye. wrap rib and tie off. Cut the center out of mallard
flank feather. Lay feather over body and tie in. Wing should extend just
past bend of hook, and be wrapped 360 degrees around hook. Dub and wrap
thorax to bead.
Whip finish.
Heavily weighted, my favorite searching nymph in western waters. Good golden
stone imitation. Also good in lakes in smaller sizes.
