BWO Midge

Hook: TMC 100 Size 20-26
Thread: Olive 6/0
Body: Olive Superfine Dubbing
Tail: Light Blue Dun
Wing: Light Blue Dun
Start by laying a base of thread wraps down the hook shank, working the
thread to the back of the hook. Next select about 5 blue dun barbule hackles.
Tie these in at the bend of the hook. The length of the tail should be about
the same length as the shank of the hook. Once tied in, begin laying the
body by attaching the dubbing to the thread, thread to hook, working your
way back to the front of the hook. Stop about 1/8 of an inch from the eye
of the hook, and attach a hackle feather by making two wraps around the
base of the feather. Now using hackle pliers, take two wraps of the hackle
around the hook and tie off with another two wraps. Finally whip finish.
Variations. The possibilities are really endless with the combinations of
dubbing color, hackle feathers and tails. Recently we have had a hatch of
black midges, and I substituted black dubbing and grizzly hackle. The fish
seemed to enjoy.
