One large blue, Melgath's size doesn't alter his agility or speed -- much. If anything it is enhanced by his extra muscle. He's not the match of a bronze, but he could probably take on the smaller browns with no trouble. His nature is gentle though, and he cares very much for his lifemate, not usually very far from her side. Gentle, however, is not his only characteristic..probably not the one people first associate with him..that would be enthusiasm! He is a /hyper/ dragon, a bit overly friendly at times, and always very disappointed if people don't respond. He is very handsome after all..(modest? Umm..)..with his even blue hide and lovely proportions. His eyes are gently-whirling, open, and are a green-blue color. Melgath's wings stretch to a width of 47 meters, and he looks to be abut 28 meters in length. From the lustre of his hide and the tone of his bugle, you'd probably guess him to be about 3 Turns, 1 months old. Melgath is lifemated to Kai, of Honalee Weyr. Sturdy flying straps of deep blue-grey leather are wrapped around his neck, fastened securely, but no riders sit upon his graceful neck.
A young woman in her early twenties, her brown hair has a gentle bouncy curl, a characteristic that is less obvious than the reddish tint it carries. Freckles are also drowned out, though she does have them, by the deep brown of her eyes and the shadow cast by the slightly more than shoulder length hair. Her build isn't large, in fact, generally her entire figure seems to be retreating. But on those occasions when she smiles, or if one really looks close enough, she's actually quite pretty. A pale lavendar colored tunic, an almost shapless example of its kind, is tucked into tan trousers, giving her figure some definition. The tunic is edged with white, a thin border of ribbon which is the only extra touch on the light purple cloth. The trousers are similarly plain, as are the boots she wears, their color a darker brown than the pants. Her knot appears to be that of a Honalee Wingleader, with a strand of blue woven into it.
Kaisie was born some twenty odd turns ago to Emelinae, then Weyrhealer of Benden Weyr. She was followed minutes later by a brother, Jevlen, and another sister, Danae. She already had three older (half) sisters in Emelinae's other children, the twins, Melana and Elana, and Lamissa. Though the oldest of the triplets, Kaisie was never really the one who took charge or came up with things for them to do -- that task fell to Jevlen, sometimes with suggestions from his sisters. As they all grew older, and were joined by other siblings (three sisters after Danae), things progressed in a fairly normal fashion. One favorite topic of speculation was the identity of their father, something Emelinae either didn't know, or chose not to share with the triplets. There were many guesses, ranging from the Weyrleader to the Masterharper of Pern.
Kaisie was always a bit shy and retiring, having a deathly fear of spinners and various other things, but was basically a normal weyrbrat...just quiet. So when she and Jevlen were asked to stand at one of Benden's clutches, it wasn't a big surprise. Their older sisters Elana and Melana had impressed a turn or so before, so they even dared think they had a chance. But it was not to be, as the dragonets had others in mind, and hardly spared the two a glance. Danae, sitting in the stands, was not so ignored, and impressed to green Aphrith. Kaisie was embarrassed and hurt, and even though it wasn't Danae's fault that she impressed, she got blamed.
After that hatching, Kaisie became even more withdrawn than before, to the extent that she hardly ever spoke to anyone other than Jevlen and her mother. She grew closer than ever to Jevlen, almost dependant on him. Only his bubbly personality could pry words out of her, and the impression of most was that she was a sullen and a bit snobbish. When her three rider sisters were transferred to Honalee Weyr on the Western Continent, she left Benden in Jev's company with few regrets.
Kaisie remained in her moody state while at Honalee, becoming more and more estranged from her sisters. When she was searched by Elana's green Talith, she very reluctantly agreed to stand again, mostly to avoid being separated from Jevlen, who'd also been searched. The remaineder of her candidacy was a long drawn out period of worry that Jevlen would impress, and she would be left alone. The worry was interrupted only a few times, once when she fell from the back of Melana's blue Fith into the weyr lake. Kaisie began to develop a fear of heights after that, refusing to ride on dragons or even to climb to the fireheights.
There was little else to distract her, other than a friendship she was developing with Eliel, the weyr's head cook. Nothing came of it, but it helped her to get over her fear of men -- to some extent. When the hatching finally came, however, Kaisie was a mess. Terrified of impressing, of not impressing, of being trampelled.. the most overwhelming worry was that Jev would impress. And impress he did, to Green Afifeth. Kaisie watched the two of them, near to tears or fainting, upset, on top of everything else, over the sudden death of a bronze dragonet at nearly the exact same time. She sagged near the wall of the hatching cavern, curling into a ball to try and block everything else, when suddenly something started poking her. It turned out to be the nose of a very big, very enthusiastic blue dragon, and after he managed to get her attention, he told her his name was Melgath.
Kai and Melgath joined Jev and Afifeth in the group preparing to go to the barracks, when the queen, whose lifemate had passed away previous to the hatching, went *between*. The little dragons were much distressed, and it took some time to calm them down. Kai was so busy trying to sort out the overload of emotions that she hardly noticed Danae leading people from the sands in her capacity as Assistant Weyrlingmaster. The four were installed in the barracks, and chose couches near to one another, so Melgath and Afifeth could play together.
Impression altered Kai a bit, made her more talkative, and less afraid to voice her feelings. It didn't improve her disposition much though, she was still touchy about things, and full of fears. Elana, recently promoted to Weyrlingmaster, was very rigid in her teachings, and Kai clashed with her more than once. Kai grew very resentful of this, and by the end of her weyrlinghood she refused to speak to Elana, finishing her training with her sister Danae, who she'd decided wasn't so bad. The final break came when Elana charged after J'len and his future weyrmate C'les, punishing them for breaking weyrling restrictions, in part on the basis of their disturbing Kai. After that the two sisters were rarely even in the same room, Kai having decided that Elana was mean-spirited and altogether nasty.
After finally graduating, Kai was assigned to the Stonefire wing, under K'gor. It was at this point that she had the idea that if she became a wingleader, she might, perhaps, be able to reward Elana for her weyrlinghood. She threw herself into it, starting slowly, and beating down her fears to try and make a good impression on folks. It took so much effort and time to do this that it eased the fact that J'len now had less time for her. He was in a different wing, and now weyrmated to C'les, with other obligations.
Around this time, while flying a sweep, Kai and Melgath discovered a rather large cothold near Kimmer Hold. They landed to inspect this anomaly, and met the Grevenor family, relatives of the Telgar Holders. Kai soon became friends with one of them, Javindhra, and after a time, she asked Javi to be her weyrmate. She brought Javi back to the weyr and the two of them made their home in one of the lowest level weyrs available, sharing a ledge with Jev and C'les.
Before she'd met Javi, Kai, knowing that J'len very much desired to be a father, offered to have a child for him. After many months and even more discussions, he and C'les took her up on the offer. Javi chose this time to want a baby of her own, and with much hesitation, J'len agreed to be the father. Javi got pregnant right away, and her daughter, Jaisa, was born right around the time Kai finally figured out she was pregnant. During the interlude, Kai became the wingleader of the Windchaser's wing, and with J'len as her Wingsecond she was busy um..drilling..Elana. (Gloat? No way.) She insisted on continuing to fly with the wing even during her pregnancy, which turned out rather well, considering. She did manage to choose the worst possible time to go into labor, which was right while Afifeth was blooding. By the time a healer finally got to the cothold, Kai was ready to tear him to bits. Fortunately, she restrained herself, and gave birth to a healthy girl. J'len and C'les arrived for the end, shaken, but in better shape than Kai at that point. They named the baby Love and took her away, which bothered Kai more deeply than she cares to admit.
