This unit was built by Electro-Motive Division of General Motors and remanufactured by Boise Locomotive Works of MotivePower Industries.
SD50-3 5000 was a demonstrator unit painted in DM&E's blue and gold colors. It served on DM&E for a number of weeks before being returned to the builder. The railroad had an option to purchase the unit, but elected not to do so.
