In January of 1998, I went on a ski trip to lake Tahoe with some friends. Never
having I skied there before, I didn't know what to expect. The views of the lake
from the top of the mountain were spectacular but what looked like snow was
really part rain and part slush.

We were skiing Heavenly ski area one week after Sonny Bono died here.
Since the ski area would not say what tree Sonny hit, we started
speculating where it happened. Here's a photo of the tree I
think he hit but later realized it didn't match the tree in the
tabloid photo.
Sonny's dent
At the lower levels of the mountain at Heavenly, the snow stays very
slushy and the ski runs are very steep, so many of the skiers take
the chairlift down the second half of the mountain to the parking lot.

this island.
