JRob's Corner of the Web

the OFFICIAL Twins Days site Every year, the first full weekend in August, there's a convention held in Twinsburg, Ohio ( about 30 miles south of Cleveland). It's the largest annual gathering of twins in the world, and it's one heck of a party! The Official Twins Days Web Page is over here! Read on for my version.
My name is John Robinson. In 1991, my brother, Charles (charlesr@visi.com), and I made the 14-hour drive for the first time, just to see what it was all about. To our surprise, we had a fantastic time!! And it just gets better every year. (This is us in our 1994 incarnation. That's me on the right.)

1997 marked our seventh visit to Twins Days. Twins (and parents of twins) from all around the country approached us and told us that this page was why they'd showed up. It was great. Charles has a great little photo album on his page. He's also put together a nice little "Twinsdays FAQ" for those of you with questions.

About 2,500 to 3,000 sets of twins participate every year, from babes in arms to people in their nineties. . It's like instantly belonging to the biggest club in town (actually, that's what it is.)

Go to the official site to learn more.

Everyone is welcome.
(this is Jean and Jill, with Art and Pete, two guys they just met on the way in. Really!)

Absolutely everyone!
(Celeste and Celestine were among the first twins we met there in 1991)
Activities include:
  • Free (to twins) hot-dog dinner Friday night. This is basically a chance to hook up with friends from last year, and get to meet some of the new people.
  • "Double-Take" parade Saturday morning. Sounds kind of cheezy, and it is!! But it's fun to be the center of attention once in a while, and you get some exercise to compensate for the effects of the partying the night before.
  • Talent Shows (pick your favorite duet! Or, perhaps you prefer to just watch...)
  • Twins competitions (who looks the most alike? least alike? Lots of age groups, lots of fun. This is where the media circus usually converges. You'll need "proof of twin" if you're competing in the "least alike" category.)
  • Arts and crafts! (small-town America at its finest)
  • Games of Chance and Skill!
  • Group Picture (one on Saturday, one on Sunday. "okay, all 2,500 of you, say cheese" )
  • Free stuff in the research tents (fill out a questionaire, get free stuff. Researchers love big groups of genetically-similar/identical pairs of people.)
  • Meet-n-greet twins from all over the world throughout the day. Pose for more "group shots" than you can imagine. Use up more film in a day than you shot all last year, Christmas included.
  • Party, party, party. They don't say anything about it in the official documents, but if you're between 16 and 60, the real reason you go is there's nothing like crowding up a hotel bar and getting as crazy as you wish with hundreds of people who've been through a lot of the same stuff you have. Twins love to meet other twins, and Twins Days is the best place in the world to do it.
If you're a twin, I'd love to hear from you. Please drop me a line at johnr@visi.com. (Or write to me and my brother at twins@visi.com.) I'll really try to write back. My brother's better about it than I am.

If you're writing a paper for school and you haven't done your homework, better head to the library right now (or get that web search engine cracking)! Because I'm not keeping any secrets -- all the links and stories I have are right here on these pages (i.e., I'm not gonna write your report for you!)
