Chapter Three
CHAPTER III
Curriculum
Introduction
The following small curriculum
is designed to be used in conjunction with a larger curriculum on parenting
or child care. It is best used by a leader or teacher who has read this
thesis and understands that the primary goal of these lesson plans is to
introduce attachment parenting practices in an effort to prevent future
attachment disorders. The promotion of future responsive parenting behaviors
is tantamount to this goal. The specific parenting behaviors that are introduced
should not be presented in a dogmatic fashion, but rather one of openness,
that will hopefully inspire students to consider for themselves how best
to parent, rather than blindly following cultural norms in a society that
does very little to value the importance of parent-child attachment. The
lessons are designed to be used with secondary students who are not parents,
but could easily be adapted for use with parenting teens as well. However,
it is strongly recommended that these lessons not be the sole basis of
a program for adolescents who are parents because those students would
benefit much more from an intensive, preferably mentoring-based, parenting
program. Several of these lessons do require significant planning, thus
this program is not to be casually implemented. Nevertheless, this author
strongly believes the benefits of introducing students to attachment-promoting
parenting behaviors will ultimately be worth the extra effort put forth
to implement these lessons.

behaviors, along with their respective handouts, start on the following
