Abstract
This thesis reviews attachment
theory and research on attachment and attachment disorders and seeks to
expand upon general recommendations for an increased focus on the prevention
of attachment disorders. Literature from multiple disciplines is reviewed to
introduce attachment parenting as a style of parenting well suited to the
goal of the promotion of emotionally secure children. The attachment
parenting behaviors of breastfeeding on cue, cosleeping, and babywearing are
reviewed with regards to their prospect for encouraging secure attachment
relationships and additional benefits. A small curriculum that promotes
attachment parenting behaviors is included.
