My days have changed as Butterfly Meadows has changed or maybe it should be said that Butterfly Meadows has changed as my days have changed. I have retired from my off the farm job. This year we have about 20 sheep and are lambing 10 ewes. Our animal population has changed significantly. We have twenty sheep, six dogs and nine cats. We have lost some of your good four legged friends this past year so there is a feeling of grief and goodbye. Of course things go full circle so we have new animals too. We have five Border Collies and Tess, my Toy Poodle. The dogs are a big part of life and work with me, too. Tess has passed her tests and is a certified therapy dog through Therapy Dogs International. I have 3 Border Collies to work with – Cap 10, Scott 4 and Twig 2. Twig is fun for training on stock, but also I anticipate no problems in getting him certified as a therapy dog. He has a sweet, loving personality and enjoys people and new situations. Cap is my working dog. We trial some and do chores together. Scott, who I rescued from the Humane Society three years ago – is my pet and soul mate. Another new thing for me the past year was teaching some beginning dog obedience classes. I enjoyed my students and their dogs, but I didn’t like being the teacher. I’ll try again this spring and see if my enjoyment and confidence level improves, if not, I’ll end my foray in teaching. Carol |
