Day 7 Friday 2/12/99

Steve decided to rent a Summit X and was seen smiling all day.

We always do a ride with a "trail lunch" where we pack food and make a fire out in the boonies for a wienie roast. This allows us to range farther from town than usual. This year we went to Cabin Creek. I packed my spare gas can on my rack, and we hit the grocery store on the way out of town.

I had a probelm with my gas can. I had chosen the wrong kind of bungee cords so the can kept bouncing off the rack. After 25 miles of going slow and constantly stopping to re-attach my gas can, we made it to Cabin Creek.

The weather was great, the snow was great, the food was...okay. We haven't figured out how to carry food on a sled without destroying it. (Editor's note: I have no problem keeping food in good condition in the storage compartment of my Indy Lite...)

Scott launched his rental Summit 600 into a creek bed requiring the biggest dig-out effort of the weekend.

After more awesome riding, Scott's week came to a close when he had to leave to get the rental back by 5:00.

My day ended a little later when I discovered that a spontaneously loosening "radiator cap" ejected enough of my coolant that I needed to head home after being unsuccessful in talking my buddies into lending me some.

Once back to the Golden West, we loaded up the sleds and packed up for the trip home. For the first time ever, I wasn't depressed getting ready to leave, because I knew we'd just had the best trip we'll probably ever have.
