Books

I have often wondered how anyone who
does not read, by which I mean daily,
having some book going all the time,
can make it through life.
-William Brinkley

This page is simply a place where I can babble about something very important to me: books and reading. It probably won't be very well organized, but then neither are my reading habits. However, if you're a bookworm, you might appreciate a few ideas of books worth reading and bookstores worth checking out.

Ok, so this is a tad cheezy, but it's my website and I can be cheezy if I want to!

A few suggestions for those who love books

A Room of One's Own

307 West Johnson St.
Madison, WI 53703

This is a bright place filled with incredible books! There's coffee, tea and other refreshments available, as well as cozy places to sit and friendly people to chat with, but my favorite part is their extensive nonfiction section, particularly the books about women from different cultures. A Room of One's Own is right off of State Street near the University of Wisconsin campus.

Canterbury Books

315 West Gorham at State
Madison, Wisconsin 53703
608/258-8899, 800/838-3850
inn@madisoncanterbury.com

It's a bookstore! It's a café! It's a bed & breakfast! The ultimate splurge for a book lover would be to stay in a bookstore. The rooms are sumptuous, with murals inspired by Chaucer's Canterbury Tales. The Inn is just a short walk from many of Madison's bookstores, restaurants and the University of Wisconsin campus. Tip: If you buy books at Canterbury, save your receipts! They can add up to a free night's stay at the Inn.

Uncle Hugo's Science Fiction Bookstore

2864 Chicago Ave. South
Minneapolis MN 55407
612-824-6347
unclehugo@aol.com

If you like science fiction, fantasy or horror novels, this is the bookstore for you! Uncle Hugo's carries both new and used books, making it right for any budget. They also have some CDs worth taking a listen to - I got my copy of Tempest's Surfing to Mecca there and was really happy with it. If you're a mystery fan too, Uncle Edgar's is connect to Uncle Hugo's and ready to fill your mystery wish list.

Ruminator Books

1648 Grand Avenue
Saint Paul, Minnesota 55105

A well-rounded bookstore with a good selection of fiction and periodicals, including small press releases. It's located near Macalester College, which is in one of the most beautiful parts of the Twin Cities.
