HeyYouSir's Favorite Movies

Over the years, I have seen my fair share of movies. A good movie can bring back fond memories, transport you to a far off place for the time being, or simply help you to sit back and relax for a while. The goal of this page is to introduce you to some fine movies (in my opinion) that you may not have seen before... In the case that you have already seen them, you just might want to watch them again!

"BRAVEHEART" (1995) Rated R - This movie takes place in the time of kings, lords and knights. Mel Gibson stars as a character by the name of William Wallace, a bold Scotsman determined not to be ruled by England. This film has something for just about everyone. Battle scenes may be a little to graphic for some, but are a good part of the story none-the-less. Mel Gibson finds some time for romance as well. This movie has a very strong message about freedom and how important it is. Freedom is something that can easily be taken for granted.

"THE BODYGUARD" (1992) Rated R - Kevin Costner plays the part of a professional bodyguard by the name of Frank Farmer. He is hired to protect a singer by the name of Rachel Marron (played by Whitney Houston). This movie has a lot going for it. I am a fan of Kevin Costner and enjoy his character in this film. Of course, Whitney Houston's songs are great and the movie keeps my attention in general.

"WALL STREET" (1987) Rated R - Charlie Sheen takes the starring role as an ambtitious young Wall Street broker by the name of Bud Fox. Michael Douglas plays the role of a financial wizard named Gordon Gekko with a genius for making money. While trying to ride the coat-tails of Gekko, Bud learns some valuable lessons.

"GREEN CARD" Rated PG-13 - Gerard Deparieu and Andie MacDowell are strangers in the movie that agree to a marriage of convenience. For him the paper marriage allows him to stay in the country. For her, the marriage allows her to live in a wonderful apartment in the city. Just goes to show you that love does not always happen at first site!

"CYRANO DE BERGERAC" (1990) Rated PG - Gerard Depardieu plays Cyrano. This film is spoken in French with yellow English subtitles. (I wonder why they use yellow?) An excellent period film depicting a time long ago. A timeless love story...

"TOP GUN" (1987) Rated PG - Tom Cruise plays a cocky fighter pilot by the name of Maverick Mitchell. I love airplanes and you get to see plenty of them in this film. The story is a mixture of plot, plane fights, and a love interest... It's all about trying to be the best!

"IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE" (1946) Rated G - James Stewart and Donna Reed star in a film that is all about life in general and how easy it is to take things for granted. This is a show that I watch during the Christmas season! A classic... George Bailey and life in a sleepy town by the name of Bedford Falls.

"LETHAL WEAPON" (1987) Rated R - Mel Gibson and Danny Glover star as police partners with a taste for adventure in the urban jungle. This is a partnership that really works. Non-stop action and some pretty funny scenes!

"THE TERMINATOR" (1991) Rated R - Arnold Schwarzenegger stars as the terminator, a cyborg that has come back in time to alter the future. Good special effects and plot set the stage for an incredible adventure!

"TOY STORY" (1995) Rated G - This film brings out the kid in all of us. Woody, Buzz Lightyear and the other toys entertain us in a delightful computer generated feature film. Disney has set new standards with this one!

"GREASE" (1977) Rated PG - Travel back to a simpler time. John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John learn about life and love at Ridell High! One of those musicals that is both predictable and fun.

"STAR TREK I - VI" - Captain Kirk sets the universe straight. I really didn't watch the series when I was growing up as a kid, but I enjoy watching these films. Where no man has gone before...

"TRUE LIES" (1994) Rated R - Arnold Schwarzenegger is special agent Harry Tasker. Tom Arnold does an excellent job in this movie playing Harry's partner. An action-packed film that has a good story as well as special effects!

"SOMEWHERE IN TIME" (1980) Rated PG - Christopher Reeve stars as Richard Collier, a young man who falls in love with a woman from the distant past. He is willing to do anything to go back in time and meet her. This film is for the hopeless romantic in us all. As Richard tells Jane Seymour in the film, "You have no idea how far I traveled to get here!"

"SOME KIND OF WONDERFUL" (1987) Rated PG-13 - This is a film about young love and true friendship. Eric Stoltz and Mary Stuart Masterson along with Lea Thompson learn about life while going to high school.

"GRUMPY OLD MEN" (1993) Rated PG 13 - Filmed in Minnesota, this film shows how old friends can both love and hate each other. Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau play life-long friends who both have their eyes on the newest neighbor in town, played by Ann-Margret.

"FERRIS BUELLER'S DAY OFF" (1988) Rated PG-13 - Ferris (Matthew Broderick) decides to take the day off from school. It comes complete with techniques on how to fool your parents into thinking that you are sick. (One of the techniques is described as childish, but as Ferris describes, "so is high school.")
This film is obviously far-fetched and unbelievable, but it helps to remind one to stop and smell the roses every once in a while.

"DEAD POETS SOCIETY" Rated PG - Robin Williams plays a new teacher at a college preparatory school. A unique brand of teacher, he provides an environment where his students are encouraged to think, make a contribution to society, and most importantly how to "seize the day" making the most of the moment and one's life!
