Minnesota State Fair 1996 To some Minnesota residents, the State Fair is considered the pinnacle of the summer season. Each year, over one million"Minnesotians" travel to St. Paul, Minnesota topartake in over 25 different "foods on a stick", look at farm equipment and animals, and find new ways to beparted from their hard-earned money. This year, we again made the journey to partake in the food, look at some farm animals and heavy equipment, and yes... topart with some of our hard-earned money in some new ways! As I said one of the focuses of the state fair is farming, and in particular dairy farming. Every day, fair officialscarve (from a 30 pound block of butter!) a statue of the day's princess. The "queen" of the princesses is called, "Princess Kayof the Milky Way." Julia, my three year old daughter, just had to have her picture taken with the princess.
No visit would be complete without the kids (HeyYouSiris not a ride "kind of guy!") taking some rides on variousdeath defying contraptions. This picture pretty much says itall as Andrea, my seven year old daughter, takes Julia along forthe ride on a kid's roller coaster built to look like a mechanicaldragon!
We also had a fair (pardon the pun!) amount of food. Most of itwas distributed on a stick. The kids had corn dogs on astick. I went for a few foot-long hot dogs! (Just goes to showyou that you are what you eat.) Microsoft hadto get into the act and had "Internet on a Stick" available. Basically that consisted of a Microsoft internet CD on a popsicle stick. (You be the judge of that!) The girls and I even got to go into the Microsoft bus (yipee... hehehe). Insidethe bus there were various software products from guess who?
Not everything at the fair costs money. There are various thingsto see and do for FREE. It can be fun to just sit back andwatch all the people there... Another interesting diversionis the sand sculptures that are built on site each year forthe sole enjoyment of fair goers. They have a considerable amount of detail and are quite impressive. Once the fair is over, they take the sand used to constuct the sculptures and redistribute it around the fair grounds.
There you have it. The Minnesota State Fair, a Minnesota tradition! [Home][HeyYouSir][Info][Friends][Links][Games][Guestbook][New][Awards][Rings] Back to the Friends page. HeyYouSir is the scribe for this page. Last modified on October 25, 1996 A.D.
