Here is letter than I had written reflecting on my family's experience visiting the Minnesota Renaissance Festival. I highly recommend going to the Renaissance Festival...
HUZZAH.... (greetings!) Had a great time at the MN Renaissance Festival. Rain threatened a good time, but the humidity prevailed and the sun shine was upon us! Lots to see and do there. It reminds me of a three ring circus, you can't see everything that is going on at once.
Highlights of the day for me:
Enjoying the renaissance period,- watched a bellydancing show. (quite entertaining!)
- need I mention the FOOD? (turkey drumstick and had some of the queen's apples).
- Did NOT go for the king's nut's. (salted nut rolls) but it did remind me of the Palace on INN.
- Watched an excellent falconry show. They have the falcons swoop thru the crowd! Falconers stand on opposite sides of the crowd and get the birds to fly from perch to perch. One falcon flew so close to me, his wing brushed up against my head. (I must confess, I watched where he was going to, not coming from, so I did not see him flying towards me.... or I am sure I would have ducked! -- and believe me you do not want to look like a duck before a falcon!) To give you an idea of what we are dealing with here, they tell you when the show starts to "hide your food!" and at one point in the show they say "if you have a small dog with you, you might want to consider leaving -- unless you are up for a bit of sport!) All things considered, they are beautiful birds. Gives one a new found respect for them.
- bought a MN Renaissance Festival t-shirt! (I buy one every year!). 25th Anniversary!
- watched a show put on by "The Rat Catcher" and his side-kick (I forget his name). Basically, this show is two guys dressed up to look somewhat revolting... one has a hunch back-look and a very interesting voice! They walk around the crowd, poking fun at folks and dragging some up to the stage to have some fun with. Lots of fun, but you pray that they don't notice you!
- Did I mention watching the bellydancing show? ;)
- Got Cole's portrait done! Call us sentimental, but we had the same artist draw each of our kids at the festival when they were under a year old! Now we have a matching set! I jokingly said see you next time (meaning see you when we have the next kid) and my wife said NO... three is enough for us!
- Joined in the big dance at the end of the day! That was the first time that I have ever done that! My oldest daughter got me to go out there and join a large group of people dancing to the beat of a drum and having a good old time! Folks from ML would fit in here quite nicely!
- I threatened to put my mother-in-law in the (I forget what they call it... basically it is a contraption that goes around your head and hands -- kind of like a big wooden handcuff -- does anybody know the name of it?) Hehehe... she did not go near that area when we were sitting there! (For $10, you can point to someone and they will take them, put them in the contraption, and proceed to embarass them.) I would NEVER have put her in it, but it was fun seeing the look on her face as she avoided that place like the plague.... I had fun, and it didn't even cost me $10. :)
- Put my face in the hole behind a picture of a face-less knight fighting a dragon. (Should have the effect of HYSD in one of his famous dragon slaying matches!) Got a picture of that... sure hope it turns out!
- Misc other activities too numerous to mention. (And to make an already too long story short!)
HYSD :)
