The gist of the problem is that XYLayout is a Borland bean which implements a null-like layout for use within the Designer. You should be able to select the 'null' layout from the dropdown and continue through.

Borland created wrapper beans for several of Sun's layout managers which were not fully bean-box compatible. Unfortunately for Foundation users, those classes were bundled in with the jbcl jars which aren't included with Foundation. You'll have to buy Professional or Enterprise to get them.
