What's the difference between calling pack() and calling validate()?
Q: What is the difference between the Swing/AWT methods pack() and validate()?

A: Call pack() when you want the window to be its preferred size, call
validate() when you have set the size. pack merely sets the size
to the preferred size and then calls validate.
Note that if you don't set the size and just call validate, then it will be
the default size which is an unusable 0x0.
