What the heck is "HotSpot"? |
| Sun sometimes calls it a "Performance Engine" and other times refers to
it as a "Virtual Machine". It is hard to know exactly how to classify
it, but it improves performance when you use it with the Java Runtime
Environment (JRE) by using different memory allocation and compilation
strategies.
For some reason, it does not work well when debugging, which is why you see messages saying to disable it using the -classic option.
HotSpot comes with JRE/JDK 1.3 and is available as an add-on package
for JRE/JDK 1.2. The Sun HotSpot web page is: http://java.sun.com/products/hotspot/index.html--John McGrath 2001-Jan-05 5:31pm gyles19@visi.com | |
