Are there any tools available to help diagnose classpath problems?
Yes. JPathReport is a nice, all-Java classpath utility. It has a summary view which notes classes which are 'shadowed' by other classes.

JPathReport is free and may be downloaded from its source:

  http://www.jgoodies.com/

This is an all-javascript site.

Here are two examples of its output:

Previous: (Answer) I am getting "sealing violation" exceptions when I run/compile my project. What does this mean?
Next: (Answer) I can add a whole package to my project and edit the source code. However, when compiling, you have to right click the desired package and the only that package is compiled. Any packages within the selected package are NOT compiled.
