Since the gif file here was physically located in the classes directory tree, JBuilder's cvs import did not see it, so it was not included in the cvs repository. When you try 'cvs status', cvs complains because the cvs status command functions only for files within the cvs sandbox/workspace, and this file is outside the sandbox.

Move the gif/jpg icon files into the corresponding packages inside the src tree, and delete the old locations from the project file. JBuilder will automatically copy these gif/jpg files from src to classes at build time.
You will need to manually add them back to the project so that they are visible in the project pane. Automatic source discovery does not discover resource files, only java sources.
