I need to see JBuilder's console window, but it's hidden. How can I see it? |

I use a program called Vern (http://oneguycoding.com). It is a virtual desktop utility, but it has that capability built into it. To show a hidden window, open the properties dialog and go to the "Processes" tab. Select the "Show Hidden" checkbox, and then select the JBuilder console window in the list. The window should have the same name as the executable; it is named "D:\Java\JBuilder4\bin\JBuilder.exe" for JBuilder's console window on my system. Then press the "Show" button and you should see the window. It can be pretty handy if you need to see JBuilder's output and have not already redirected the output. I have used it to look at JBuilder's window on a number of occasions. And in case you were wondering, you can install it on a system and use it without rebooting. I once ended up with a hidden window as a result of another virtual desktop program failing, so I could not do a save, and I had several hours of work invested. If I tried to shut the system down, it would warn me that the work was not saved, but the dialog had no save option -- just quit and cancel. I could not bring myself to press quit. I finally thought of Vern, installed it, and made the window visible again. Vern saved my bacon that time. It is also interesting to scrounge around looking at all of the "windows" that exist on your system.

| Additionally and just in order to see JBuilder or installed OpenTools generated console outputs, the JB IDE Logger OpenTool can be used, see: http://codecentral.borland.com/codecentral/ccweb.exe/listing?id=15783 This OpenTool allows to redirect stdout/stderr messages into an accessable text logfile, which can be previewed from inside the JBuilder IDE. | Beside Vern, which AFAIK is not free, there is a free tool called "WinForce" see http://www.donutstudios.de which beside hundreds of other things, allows to show up hidden windows and processes etc. too! However, note that in order to use it on Windows 2000, you need at least version 1.5 of Winforce. Valentino 2001-May-09 1:06pm vkyr@ision.net | |
