Since the built-in MUSH money system does not allow a player to have a negative balance, we have provided a local money supply system we call IC MONEY. The standard 'building credits' money is still used for creating objects and running mush code. IC Money is used for all in-character transactions such as buying food from catering units, purchasing airsleds and cutters, and, of course, getting paid for crystal brought in from the ranges.
All characters on the MUSH have an IC Money account, and all earn a wage in one form or another, and all pay bills. For example, Sled Technicians earn wages for repairing damaged airsleds, installing optional equipment, maintaining the airsled simulators, etc.
Sorters use a computerized table to sort and grade raw crystal. To encourage dilegence in this task, they are paid a percentage of the final sorted value of each cut.
Medics are paid a standard wage each time they treat a Guild Member.
Tuners earn a wage for recutting raw crystal and installing sets off planet. They also are paid a percentage, to encourage and reward good work.
Planet Leaders earn the shuttle fares all other players pay to travel to their planet. The more popular the planet and/or the higher the fare, the more the planet leader earns.
Singers, of course, earn credit by cutting and bringing in raw crystal from the ranges. They also have the most bills to pay, which include sled cleaning and restocking, equipment purchases, carton storage fees, claim paint, and others.
Sled Technicians earn money by upgrading and repairing singers' airsleds, and by maintaining the airsled simulators.
All Heptite Guild members are assessed a 30cr/month room fee.
Any player can earn extra money from creating a salable object, which is then installed in a vending machine or shop. They then earn royalties when ever that object is sold to another player.
Money can also be earned by building claim sites in the crystal ranges, writing weather effect messages, writing descriptions of food items for the catering units, etc. See +Jobs for more information on current opportunities. The economy is still incomplete, however, and we are continually thinking of new ways to make it more complete, and thus, hopefully, more challenging and more fun.
