IR photos

The Minolta Dimage 7 is my preference for a camera to shoot infrared. The camera is very sensitive to infrared light and you can set it into black and white mode and manual mode at the same time. At 5 mega pixels it takes a good quality image. I have found that using a steady apeture setting of f/8 and varying the shutter speed depending on the light conditions works best. The Dimage 7 takes a 49mm filter which holds down the cost of the Hoya R72 a bit over cameras with larger filter requirements. I have found that experimenting with focus works best. In some lighting conditions auto focus works just fine but in other darker or overcast conditions manual focus works better. I shoot several pictures with manual and several with automatic focus. You definately need a good sturdy tripod along with the remote cable release to shoot IR with the Diamge 7. While I have never tried it the Dimage 5 is also suppose to be sensitive to IR light but is only a 3.2 megapixel camera. The Minolta 7i and 7Hi are not very sensitive to infrared light and do not make good cameras for that purpose.
